This and that with a question thrown in the middle

Ok--I need to slap myself up a little and post something a little less serious. Back to writing--hm--I wish I was but instead I'm waist deep in edits.

In the past, I thought what I called editing really was editing but I am quickly learning there are whole new levels to the word. So I'm plugging away a little each day--it will amaze me to see what I end up with in the coming months.

Will I recognize my story?

What else?--a big question. Ok--this might sound really stupid but when submitting something, how on earth do you keep the green lines from coming back? You know those lines--the ones that tell you you have a fragment even though you want the thing? I try accept all changes, final copy --everything! And they come back! Help!

(Now don't answer in high-tech language, please.)

Another concern--I'm getting blocked on a few of the newer blogs and I feel horrid thinking someone might think I am not responding as blogger etiquette requires! I keep sending in the information and hope it fixes itself. I think the extra gadgets on blogs kick me off.

Finally--got to give my congressman some credit today. We haven't gotten any unemployment since January and today we called for help to the congressman's office as you can't get through to unemployment--ever. Tada! With one e-mail, the woman found out our claim was never processed. A check will soon be in the mail.

Now that is worth writing about.

I wish I could help with the technical questions, but they are alwasy beyond me. With regard to edits, I've decided they will never, ever be done. Even after the book is published, things are going to appear you want to change. I am still getting used to hte concept of sometimes rewriting sections. Glad the unemployment issue has been taken care of.

Wow, you blogged about a little bit of everything today. So glad to hear about the check in the mail. As far as those fragments...I have no idea! I just leave them there and try to ignore the lines :)

Praise God for the unemployment glitch, because now, there is something to look forward to help in your financial struggles! I am so glad you finally got through.
Not so sure about the technical problem with the edits. I did, at one time have difficulty getting on other blogs, but it seemed to self correct.

Good thinking to contact them!!

I'm not sure about the squiggly lines. I wonder about how to get rid of them too.

Hey, I look at editing as writing, Terri. In fact, it's the most important part of writing. So don't get on yourself for working on that. It means you're polishing!!!

I admire your perserverence in the overwhelming task of editing. Way to go!

So happy to hear that a much needed check is coming your way!

Whoo hoo on the $$$! I would also like to know about those little green lines! Part of me cant wait to get to the editing part and part of me is scared of it. Press on my friend.

Yay! I'm glad you'll be getting a check. ;-)

As for green squigglies, lol, I think I ignore mine. :-) You could try turning off your grammar tool thingy.

Hi Terri -

Wonderful news about the unemployment! I'm sure it will help.

I'm having problems with some of the newer blogs also. If anyone knows how to comment on the other format, please enlighten me. No matter what I do, my comment refuses to post.

If I find an answer to your fragment problem, I'll let you know.

Blessings,
Susan :)

wow the last item was indeed a blessing-perserverance pays off. can't answer your technical question-try your word processing help or read the manual? I too am editing and it is work but fun in a way as publishing my work is getting closer...

What a blessing to have a check coming in the mail! And I agree with editing--it's a LONG process!! I keep learning more and more about editing and how to do it better! The key is learning the craft and continuing to improve however we can!

Editing! Reediting! That's the tough part. If you're still getting blocked from blogger sites, try downloading Firefox and using it to access the internet rather than Internet Explorer. It has fewer bugs than explorer. Hope that helps and again, I love your honesty and realism. Sarah

Yay on the check! As for the editing marks showing up in Word, when you click on it, a menu of choices comes up. Choose the "Grammar" one, then click, "Ignore Grammar Rule." (Or something real close to that.) LOL

You hit the nail on the head for me...will I recognize my story when it is "truly" edited?

My similar experience found that Internet Explorer 8 is the problem. Tech support said many people who have Vista were having this problem and to uninstall 8 and reinstall 7,which I did and have no problems now. When Windows Update reinstalled 8 again (oops didn't mean to let it!) then I had problems again. Hope this helps you.

Terri: I am so happy and thankful that you are getting a check; soon, I hope!

I agree with Eileen: editing is writing. It's kind of like adding new spices to an already great recipe, to enliven it even more.

Blessings, Jen

I"m no good with the technical stuff either, sorry. It's nice to hear that a politician actually did something to help the people, sorry I sound bitter don't I?

Hope you've got the technical issue solved by now. Have you got Firefox installed? Sometimes we ought to try several browsers to troubleshoot the blog viewing problem.

Also, good news on getting the check. Best wishes to you Terri.

You must be talking about online editing? I don't understand it. Don't like it. Manual editing is probably takes so much more time, but there isn't all those funny lines and other stuff. This doesn't sound too technical, does it :)!

I assume you are talking about in MS Word. There are several ways around it. The easiest is to turn of the grammar checker. It's practically useless for serious editing.
