Exploding into the next story

I’ve started writing my next book. Two chapters, in fact, even though I hadn’t planned to write any on it until September. After I had my current one edited. After I started querying it.

But some things won’t wait.

Like the character screaming for me to put her down on paper before I forget about her penchant for drawing paper or her hatred of a golf club.

Or before I forget everything I just learned in my online editing course about how to plot out the whole story first so I don’t end up tearing it apart like I did this last one.

Yeah—some things won’t wait.

Like my desire to write something much better than the previous one and throw away some of those stinking rules just for a little bit so I can let my voice go like it wants to!

Some things won’t wait. Will they?

What about you? What won't wait for you?

Lately, the beach....;O)

Summer is too short here in NY to let any of it go to waste.

Two chapters? That's awesome!!

I actually have stopped writing and started plotting because I needed to get it down too so it would stop bothering me. :)

I'm with you . . . sometimes you just have to let yourself enjoy the pleasure of it. I think you hear it in the writing. :)

Somehow a character hopped out of my mind and onto the page. I was going to write an idea and ended up writing several pages. Don't you love when this happens?

Plot on, my friend! Let no grass grow under your feet.

Go for it!

I've done that, too, when the voice just won't quiet. Sometimes you have to give in.

Actually, God is teaching me to wait on just about everything in my life right now, but if I had to pick, I would say learning. I know in order to move forward, I have so much to learn. You are amazing with all your story ideas!

I love that stage when you just can't wait to get the story down on paper! It's so much fun!

Well, actually, life feels like the opposite for me right now. God has me in waiting mode. I think I need to start a chapter for VIPs (Very Impatient People), Waiters Anonymous. "Hi. I'm Rhonda, and I don't wait very well..."

I'm stuck right now with a finished project waiting to be judged before I can publish it and not wanting to start anything new. Just treading water right now.

Great for you, Terri! This is wonderful news--a new book. Starting fresh is always fun.

Letter writing! I'm not a book author, but I am a letter writer, and I love to spend time sharing with my friend, as if we were chatting person to person. I find that letter writing needs the proper attention, demostrating the reader that you do care about her and what's going on with her.

Indeed, some things just can't wait. :-) Best of luck with the new book!

What won't wait? This character that keeps tugging at me for my second book--I'm so anxious to get to know her. I'm impatient, since lots of other things around here can't wait either, but we're going to take some time together here soon!

Great question :-)

Good on you for getting it down when you can. It's so much easier to write when your subconscious takes over. Forget editing til later..:)

Good for you. Because you started a new book and because you are writing for passion at least for a little while. Go for it. Let yourself write it all out. What fun. If I had an idea or a character, I'd do the same. Right now, living is very full, but soon, I plan to write something, even if I have to just write on a blank page.

Explosion... I think I know the word! I'm so happy for you, starting a new WIP. I just did also. It's so much more fun than queries! Hope you continue to have fun with it, and thanks again for your prayers.

I actually hit a wall in my current WIP because I want to go back and edit NOW. But that will have to wait until I've finished the first draft. As for new stories, if they are crying out to me as much as yours seems to, then the ONLY smart option is to go with the flow :)

I so hear you, Terri! I've had new characters bouncing around in my head for the past month, but haven't been able to do much with it just yet. Good for you for getting started!

I know exactly what you mean! Congratulations on starting the new story - two chapters is amazing :)

I hear you about those rules - sometimes I feel so confined.

Hi Terri! I'm so happy for you that you are inspired to write, whatever it may be! Sometimes, that's the hardest part. I can be like that, too....thinking I "should" spend more time writing my book, but then I see a call for submission or a contest, and I'm off and running...well, actually keyboarding....in a totally different genre! Our creativity just rules sometimes!

SO PROUD OF YOU! Praise GOD!!

I am envious as a story is exploding in my head but I have to finish final edits for The Rhythm of Secrets, then finish a soon-to-be-contracted book.

Will tell more later!!
Blessings,
P

That's wonderful Terri. Some things really don't wait. But I feel its better that way. For me too my stories tug at my arm and until I write them they keep poking and prodding.

You are wise to get started on a new piece. It helps keep you from getting too neurotic over the first one.

That next WIP is always so impatient to be let out of the old noggin. But I have to keep it at bay if I'm to get my present projects done!

Good for you! You just put a fire in me to be more spontaneous with my writing. Your enthusiasm is contagious!

Just had to tell you, Terri, how much I love your little banner- "As for me and my blog, we will serve the Lord". Awesome! =)

the most important thing that won't wait...is quality time spent with my kids. You're post reminded me...I need to quiet the restlessness inside and focus even more on them. I can get too caught up in my head...

Deb Shucka said...

So glad to hear you've got this story demanding to be told. And that you're giving it voice.

Yes I understand your excitement. I am there right now with this new writing project. How exciting for you? Book number two already started. That's fantastic!

Anything that brings a flood of opinions and the character's or topic's for and against in my mind....can't wait.

Wow, lots of activity around here lately Terri! Right now what won't wait is my to-read shelf. I've been diving in this summer, reading for pleasure, and for critical analysis. But I'm already feel the itch coming on for fall when I crack the books again, and focus on one aspect of writing--rhetoric this time. And when what won't wait anymore -- me blogging again.

I have dozens of scraps of paper on my desk of ideas and things that won't wait, but need to be at least scribbled down. Am planning on getting things together this week:)
