In the plan

My husband is going on his first mission trip --to an orphanage in Haiti. Soon. He's thrilled to go since he's wanted to help build for years.

Me? I'm thrilled for him too. I know it will be a life changing experience and maybe one we both need right now.

But it makes me wonder why I wasn't as willing to go as well since I was the one who always thought it would be wonderful to be on a foreign mission field.

And now I would rather stay cozy in my own home, with my own bathroom and own brands of food. I asked him this morning if he was apprehensive at all. "No," he said. No long drawn out worries or concerns. I'd have a list a mile long. I do when I drive more than an hour away.

I guess God knows who to call where and when. I know He has a plan in all of this and my part is to stay home this year and pray.

Like any event in our life, I'm excited to see what unfolds next. Are you in the midst of something too?

I agree, God does know who to send. People have told me, yeah, God sent you because you adapt easier than most. Mission trips to very impoverished or destroyed countries are not for the faint of heart nor those who need luxury.

Looking forward to hear his testimony! and yours! you too will have one while you intercede and pray while he is gone.

I am so excited for him ...

Wow, what an awesome testimony your Man will come back with. And yourself as you have some alone time to watch and listen to God.

Indeed! My own hubby is presently in New Jersey interviewing for a job. We stand at a crossroads (been there; done that ... MANY times!), so he's investigating some things. Me ... I'm content to run the race set before me. It's often quite different from the race hubby is running. In the end, they are typically sympatico, as if we run side-by-side.

BTW ... my church just finished building a little church in Valu Haiti.

God bless the both of you (I'd be doing JUST what you are!).

Don't feel bad about not wanting to go. My hubby has done quite a few trips without me. But now, I think I'm ready. So when the next opportunity comes our way - I'll be ready. I would not have said that a few years ago!

I know I would be a terrible fit for a mission trip to a developing country - I'm just not wired that way. :-)

You know sometimes when we least expect it we are called into action. It could be that God needs you where you are for a different 'mission'.
I will keep your husband and his team in my prayers!!!(hey, it could just be that your husband needs you on the homefront to keep him updated on the day to day)
Whatever God has planned for you will unfold and you will KNOW what He requires of you.
Love,
Sharon

In the midst. That's the question. In the midst of life, in the midst of growing in my relationship with Christ, in the midst of figuring out what this call to write is all about, in the midst of the inner hormonal changes that are occurring, in the midst....

However I have to tell you that I have sent my husband and children off on many a mission trip. I remember the first time it was a bit unsettling to know that they were off in a foreign country, thankfully I have since gotten over that. My husband and son went on several trip together and now my daughter and husband are planning for their second trip.
My daughter is even now making plans for the summer trip, saving her money finding just the right scripture for the team tee shirts, coming up with fund raiser ideas.

I know that once my husband got missions under his skin he truly feel the call to serve in the mission field, and now my daughter has the bug as well. I will say that sending them off to Mexico is not as stressful as sending them off to Honduras or Africa. I tell myself one step at a time and praising Jesus that each trip brings with it countless blessings.

On a truly selfish aspect of all of this, when they depart for mexico this summer that will give me the opportunit to have a wonderful time of renewal and relaxation as I wil have my house all to myslef for an entire week. I am already thinking of how I will spend my time.

Blessings
Robin

Oh my goodness! Prayers and blessings for you husband. May he be safe and rewarded.

My family is still in the midst of something bad that happened... that God has used to make us better. It's been really tough, but I can see the blessings involved.

We were in Haiti in November. Hot hot hot hot and humid humid humid humid!!!! I didn't see this actually happen but I guess the cruise ship owns part of the island and the locals aren't allowed on that part (I don't agree with that, but...) and apparently, a gentleman with our group saw a little boy peeking through the fence where he wasn't supposed to be. The gentleman handed the little boy a $5 bill and it was like that little angel had won the lottery, the way he ran off, waving that $5 bill in the air.

Terri,
I'm so glad to be back in the blogosphere and stop here for a visit!

I completely relate to your story. For years I thought I'd be the one to go on a mission trip. In the end it was my husband who went first. Two years ago he went with our church to the Dominican Republic for a mission project. He went again the next year. Each time I didn't feel motivated or inspired to join him, and was plenty content to stay home.

Finally, this summer, the kids and I, along with my husband will go to the DR as a family on our church's mission project.

Sometimes God's timing isn't our timing. Sometimes we put God off. Knowing the difference between the two is the hard part.

Blessings to you and your husband. I pray for safe travels and God's abundant blessing on his trip.

That's so cool! What a great husband, and you're equally great because even though you don't feel called to go, you're doing your part by praying for him and the trip. Pretty awesome! I hope you'll keep us updated.
