Direction

I debated whether posting today. My town is getting hammered with a nice pounding rain--it's dark and dreary out--a good day to lay low and write.

But I'm also excited about my new WIP. What's different about this one? I'm finally writing how I want to and it feels freeing and refreshing. With my first two books, I wrote like the books I used to read.

This time, I'm writing more like ones I enjoy reading now.

Secondly, I changed the way I came up with the plot. I thought about an issue that intrigues me. Then I asked the question "What if?"

Now I have direction.

Previously, I've fought my way in the dark trying to make my story interesting. But so far this week, I've written over 5000 words since Tuesday and I can see the book in my head like a movie. But what's great is I actually don't feel embarrassed about the topic I've chosen like I have with some of my previous ones.

Have you made any changes recently in the way you are writing?

Terri, as I read your post, I thought, "It sounds like she's found her voice." What a wonderful thing, too. Congratulations!

I haven't really deviated yet from my Inspirational Romances, (though there's a teen novel brewing in my brain cells right now, but again, it's a clean one, though the real struggles of teens will be there if it ever gets written). So I guess I've been consistent. But I think it would be fun to experiment, and I bet you learn alot from doing so.

Wow, sounds awesome! Congrats. :-)

I like what I'm writing, a good 'ol inspirational romance.

It's actually getting sunny over here, but last night, man the wind was howling.

Terri,

I find it totally amazing for those of you who write for God and are published. Yea God and yea Terri!

Love to you,
Yolanda

Sadly the change for me has been that I haven't found the time to write lately.

It sounds as though your head & your heart have conspired to write from the depths of your soul. That ought to make for some amazing, wonderful writing (and reading).

Whenever something wells up from my "gut", it's much better than anything I create from my head. Thus I'm always changing this or that, or scrapping something altogether. It just has to "feel" right, no matter what I think, or what anyone else says.

Looking forward to more details on your plot & progress!

Kathleen

Great news, Terri! I could feel the enthusiasm in your post. And 5,000 words since Tuesday is AWESOME!

I have changed how I write in the past few years. I used to only write romance, but now I've strayed into more mainstream territory and though it's challenging, I enjoy it a lot more.

Great news, Terri. I'm echoing Travis, sadly. :)

What a difference that makes! I've done that myself and I love how freeing and how quickly things move. Have fun!

You are so headed in the right direction. Everything you mentioned you've done is just ideal, and I wish you well as you continue.

Thursday! *squee*

I'm excited for you Terri. My thoughts are in total agreement with Sassy's comments. What you feel in your gut gives true meaning to writing to you personally and to others who are your readers. I have to write from my heart and soul, it's the only way that I can write.

Blessings,
Alleluiabelle

You rock! You are an inspiration to many of us who get stuck in a rut.

way to go...I think our writing improves like anything as we work on it. I'm finding more topics for articles as I write ahead and an idea to compile them into a book collection sometime.

Terri,
Hooray for the fresh wind blowing through your writing! Congratulations on a word-filled week!

I'm in a total rut with my writing. I don't know what to write, where to write it or even IF I should write. Trying to sort it out over here.

Have a great weekend.
Blessings,
Kelli

It's so exciting to hear your thoughts about your WIP! I have changed in my writing habits as well, though I think mostly it's just from growth and gaining more confidence the more experience I have. Congratulations!
