It's Time

Oh Baby.

When I saw that e-mail my blood started pumping. My heart did a little dance. And my fingers tingled.

It's that time of year. The ACFW Genesis contest is open.

If you've never sent in the first fifteen pages of your fiction work of art, then this is the year. Stop putting it off.

Last year, I took the leap while in the throes of the flu. With only a few days left to submit, I whipped my latest WIP together and sent it off.

Best $35 I ever spent. No, I didn't place. Sigh. But what I did get was some of the best advice and critiques ever. And the manuscript I sent in is now sitting on a publisher's desk as a whole request.

I don't have the money to attend a conference this year--so this is the next best way to get my work out there.

So. Did I just sound like an infomercial or what?

Oh Baby. Get moving.

Terri: You are a natural born marketing gal-- I love the plug for Genesis contest. If your ms is anywhere near as good as your commercial, get your contract signing pen out!

It's scary to put your work out there, but I trust you when you say it's well worth it. Besides, what's the point of creating work if you never share it? I'll have to check to see if there is a genre limitation.

Best Wishes Galen.

Congrats on having a full out, Terri. That's awesome news.

I've been debating about entering this year. I need to pray more on that.

Terri, I'm going to do this for the very first time. Is it just the first fifteen pages? I guess I need to find out the details. i'd like to enter more than once as well.

Awesome! What are you submitting this year? I'm sooo excited for you!

Sounds like a winner if you have a product ready to go. The categories don't fit my writing. I hope you win or at least place this year.

Terri, you maka me laugh! Wow, I'm so excited, I want to enter it! But I'm a playwright - although I always have a few fiction ideas rolling around my head. Hmmm, may have to think about this one a bit.
Sounds so intriguing!

Praying that this time you're a winner!

Love writing contests and searching for the best of my writing to submit. Would be just as excited if you won as I would be if I did!

I guess I should enter. I didn't last year but now I'm wondering if I should. Hmmm... Thanks for the reminder. :-)

Terri...you're too awesome. I love how you pump people to move forward with their work. It's like you've jumped in with two feet and you're taking a load of people with you. ☺

That does sound like a good deal - well done!

Yeah, but a really hip commercial kinda like that boy standing on the side of the road just saying, zoom, zoom, and then that's all you want to do is zoom over there, with your 35 bucks and fist fifteen though! Best of luck!!

This contest was amazingly helpful to me, too. Those critiques alone make membership worthwhile, even though there's so much more you can get from ACFW, too.
